PATIENT INFO & APPOINTMENTS

What to Expect

Referral Expectations

You can visit your GP for a referral, or if you are a Southern Cross member, you can self-refer for a consultation with Associate Professor (Hon.) Richard Martin. During your initial visit, Richard will discuss your history of the condition and perform a physical examination.

Once a diagnosis has been confirmed, Richard will discuss the treatment plan with you. In some instances, this will mean surgery, while other cases can be managed with ongoing medication and advice.

If surgery is advised, the steps involved in the surgical process and the likely outcome are usually discussed with you at the time. This includes options and detailed information about your surgery, possible risks and complications, and costs. We can also assist with your insurance approval.

Appointments

During your appointment, you may also be required to undergo tests, including blood tests, x-rays, and scans.

Sometimes, these tests can be done during one visit, or you may need follow-up appointments. Occasionally, we might be able to arrange tests before your appointment to try to speed up the process.
